Have you every heard of paper clay?

Well if you’re a potter paperclay it’s a fantastic thing to use in your practice because it is so much stronger than regular clay. Paperclay is made by adding cellulose fibres from plants to normal clay in different ratios according to what you are using it for. The cellulose fibres can come from flax, cotton, wood or bamboo.

Paperclay has twice the tensile strength of regular clay at the greenware stage so it prevents cracking in slip-cast pottery. Another fantastic thing about paperclay is that it can be used with the raw glazing technique. Raw glazing is where a pot is glazed when it is dry or leather hard and fired straight up to glaze temperatures rather than being bisque fired first.
