Condensed Matter Physics - Lattice Vibration : Vibration of Monatomic Linear Lattice-01

Описание к видео Condensed Matter Physics - Lattice Vibration : Vibration of Monatomic Linear Lattice-01

A monatomic linear crystal lattice is an array of,equidistant atoms or ions, each of the same mass. When an elastic wave passes through the crystal, atoms get perturbed and set into motion, either parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the wave vector. Here the longitudinal vibration has been discussed. Assuming the interaction only between nearest- neighbor atoms and applying Hooke’s law, dispersion relation has been obtained. It’s found that the frequency of variation varies with the wave vector periodically. In case of very small frequency, the dispersion effect is negligible.
