SEPA

With your bank card,

you can pay for goods,

take out money,

make a transfer or arrange a direct debit.

Thanks to the Single Euro Payments Area, or SEPA for short, you can do all this just as easily in Belgium as in any other EU country, and even outside the EU.

All bank cards feature a chip.

All accounts have a number that starts with the code of the corresponding country, followed by two check digits and the account number: this is the IBAN or international bank account number.

Besides, there is no longer any difference between the fee involved for transferring money electronically within Belgium and from Belgium to another European country.
And the cherry on the cake: it's all controlled by the Central Bank, as part of its prudential supervision task!
