Dhanyashtakam Day 06/08 by Swami Aparajitananda, Chinmaya Mission Chicago-Yamunotri.

At the beginning of each lecture, Pujya Swamiji beautifully recaps all that he has narrated and explained so far from Dhanyāṣṭakam.
In this session, Swamiji discusses Verse 6, which emphasizes why only a peaceful and subtle mind can meditate, comprehend, and grasp the finer realities of existence:
नासन्न सन्न सदसन्न महसन्नचाणु
न स्त्री पुमान्न च नपुंसकमेकबीजम् ।
यैर्ब्रह्म तत्सममुपासितमेकचित्तैः
धन्या विरेजुरित्तरेभवपाशबद्धाः ॥ ६॥
Pujya Swamiji illustrates the concept that Truth is devoid of all attributes, using various examples to make it clear.
He also explains the nature of bondage in a simple yet profound manner, helping us understand how deeply we are tied by our own minds:
1. Every bondage manifest as a lack of freedom or helplessness.
2. Our true nature is infinite bliss, yet we feel helpless and unable to access it.
3. The infinite nature is not absent, but our inability to experience it is the real misery.
4. Immortality is inherent to our nature, yet we cannot access it.
5. We wish to be free from tension, worry, and anxiety, but we feel helpless in breaking free from our habitual thought patterns.
6. The bondage described in the scriptures is psychological, something we experience deeply within ourselves at every moment.
7. Perfection is our true nature, but we perceive imperfection within and constantly strive to achieve perfection.
8. Divinity is our essence, but the experience of it feels distant from us.
Swamiji knows that unless we know what is bondage we will not strive for moksha, hence this elaborate explanation.
Swamiji concludes by noting that Ādi Śaṅkarācārya elaborates on this concept of bondage in the next verse, which will be discussed in the upcoming session.
