Welcome to the third episode of the Cranmore Community Co-op series of podcasts. These podcasts describe lectures and stories of shared history in conversation with members of many different types of religious communities in Sligo and guest lecturers. We are delighted to have as our third guest speaker Joe McGowan.
Joe is a native of Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo.
For many years he has been dedicated to preserving, visually and orally, Ireland’s disappearing traditions and customs.
His books are inspired by countless nights spent listening to the stories of the older generation augmented by meticulous archival research.
His short stories, cameos of Irish life both past and present, feature frequently in national magazines, on radio and on TV.
His publications include: ‘A Bitter Wind’, ‘Echoes of a Savage Land’, ‘Inishmurray: Island Voices’, ‘In the Shadow of Benbulben’; ‘Constance Markievicz: The People’s Countess’; ‘Inishmurray, Gale, Stone and Fire’, A Fairy Wind CD; ‘Sligo: Land of Destiny’, ‘The Hidden People’ and most recently, ‘Sligo Folk Tales’.
