August 22 falls in the midst of the state and county fair season. State and county fairs are an American pastime in the late summer and early fall—a remnant of a cross-cultural tradition rooted in ancient times in all cultures alround the world. Generally speaking, fairs represent our very first open markets where we gave away, bartered, traded or sold the harvests and livestock and they lasted as long as possible. Open markets are our very first life systems.
