"The Key is Under the Mat" - Promoting cultural diversity in FYR Macedonia

The MDG-Fund supported the production of this TV series showcasing a fresh and innovative approach to promoting cultural diversity in Macedonia, which is experiencing growing disparities and polarisation between its Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish and Roma populations. The program, called The Key is Under the Mat, is a series of five short films that document two-day visits between young people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The series takes 18-year-old Boban Mazucanec from Prilep to Tetovo, for example, where he stays with the Roma family of Dzengis Huseini. Another episode takes 22-year old Refik Tair, from the Turkish community in Kumanovo, to the family of Agon Celiku in Skopje. Tamara Kotevska, a young Macedonian born in Prilep, visits the Vlach family of Marija Brova. The first show of its kind in the country, the series is the outcome of an initiative from the Joint UN Programme for "Enhancing Inter-ethnic Dialogue and Collaboration in FYR Macedonia."
