Prostate cancer accounts for the largest racial disparity in mortality of all common cancers, with African Americans 2.3 times more likely to die from prostate cancer as Caucasian men. Not only is prostate cancer more lethal, it is often more frequent among African Americans, who are 1.6 times as likely to develop prostate cancer as Caucasian men. Edward Schaeffer, MD, PhD (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu..., and his research team aim to better understand racial disparities in prostate cancer in order to improve identification, treatment selection and outcomes for men of all races with prostate cancer.
