Exploring Eugene Oregon's EXPANSIVE Riverfront Park System!

The name is Danny, the channel is Trippin' Outdoors, and welcome to another day and another adventure! Today we explore Eugene, Oregon's EXPANSIVE Riverfront Park System, along the south bank of the Willamette River!

We start at Maurie Jacobs Park, find a neat, private little embankment to the river, and spend time there, before moving on down the path toward our next destination, the Owen Rose Garden, where we sniff roses and showcase and gush over the incredibly gorgeous work of art that is the mural on the restrooms! We come to our completion of the trip outside Coldfire Brewing to the eating area surrounded by food carts, showcasing the Texas Heat Sausage I got from Paper Plate BBQ, and then some clips of the glorious homes and gardens along Polk Street as I walked back to Alex's Garage. This trip was on June 19th, 2024.

A sneaky Hornet nest, gorgeous scenes, underwater footage, wasps, drakes, and even a beautifully colored woodpecker make appearances too.

I wasn't the most cognitively functional this particular day as I had to wake up far earlier than I normally would as I had it sprung on me I was scheduled to get my sloppy jalopy into the garage by 10am, so I had to get up at 7am and leave around 8am to make that time frame. Upon arrival I found out I had all day to wait, and the day wound up being hotter than forecast (what else is new, the experts in weather being wrong even with all their advanced tech haha, classic) at 92f, and as I believe I have established in a video here before, I am very heat sensitive, especially when moving and in direct sun. All of this combined with a lack of sleep and progressively dropping blood sugar meant my brain function would slowly slip as the day progressed.

I still spent some extra time walking both ways to snag any trash I saw along the paths and especially along the river, and take it to the nearest bins. Thankfully, there actually wasn't too much trash. I did end up snatching and tossing a few items of clothing that has been in the river for a long while as they were disintegrating.

Overall I can say I enjoyed my experience in Eugene, and the parks. The only thing that would make the park system truly perfect, is if they added more public restrooms (or at least many more OHs), a few more watering places, increase the size of the bathroom sinks, and add sanitizing substances into the bathrooms. The bathrooms had tiny sinks, no warm water, and no soap or sanitizers, not even a place for a dispenser. Otherwise, this is exactly how all cities and towns should treat their waterways, specifically their main ones like rivers and of course lakes. Solid 7.75 or 8 out of 10 for me.

This was my first time spending any time in Eugene in my life, despite being a life long Oregonian of 30 years so far. I have to thank Alex and Doug from Alex's Garage for the recommendation!
