This is a balloon flight to the edge of space called Away 129. We flew it to 96,000 feet in 2019.
Away 129 was a packed mission. It carried 80 PongSat student experiments and our own experimental valves that we now use on our high altitude airships, we were also testing telemetry upgrades and for first time we used 3d printed parts as structural components. We topped it off with 5 video cameras and an environment sensor package. It was a loaded flight.
When ever we have student experiments on board we make a video of the mission. The video gets sent to them along with their experiments after the flight. Well, after the recovery. There’s not a lot of dialog. Mainly the experience of being on board with their project.
After landing I’ll talk about the recovery of the platform. It was a bit of any adventure.
The balloon lifted off on a Sunday morning at 9:30 am from our Area 42 launch facility in the deserts of Nevada.
