The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has hit day 38, with the Senate expected to vote on an updated funding bill.

Republicans offered Democrats a new bill that would end the shutdown, as well as advance three full-year spending bills. As part of the deal, Republicans are reportedly willing to talk to Democrats about rehiring the federal workers who have been laid off since the shutdown started.

The original funding bill only included short-term appropriations until Nov. 21.
