Crossbills

During an evening stroll around part of Wareham Forest in Dorset we encountered a pair of Crossbills feeding from the cones of a small Pine tree. The tree was right next to a track which was popular with cyclists and walkers. The birds were giving such good views that we were praying that nobody came past and disturbed them. Surprisingly when a few people did walk and cycle past, the birds seemed totally unfazed and continued prising the cones open with their perfectly adapted crossed bills. We enjoyed every moment of the half an hour or so we were in their presence. It was absolutely wonderful. I hope you enjoy the video of them.
