Revenge of the Mirrorless Camera! Street Photography with the Lumix G7 and new 25mm f/1.7

Exciting News! The Lumix G7 is back with a vengeance, now equipped with the amazing 25mm, f/1.7 lens! Will this lens be the ultimate redemption for the Lumix?

In our previous video featuring the Lumix, we encountered two major challenges. Firstly, the G7 suffered from a significant noise issue. Any photos taken at an ISO of 800 or higher resulted in an overwhelming amount of noise. While some may argue that high noise, or grain, can add an artistic touch, I believe that starting with a clean, low-noise photo and adding grain later provides more flexibility and control over the final aesthetic.

Secondly, the G7's autofocus performance left much to be desired, especially in street photography where missing a crucial moment due to slow or unreliable focusing can be incredibly frustrating.

Thankfully, I am fortunate to have an incredible community here on YouTube, and they came to the rescue with valuable suggestions and solutions in the comments section. The consensus pointed towards a specific remedy: pairing the G7 with a superior lens. So, I took their advice and made a purchase!

I opted for a 20mm, f/1.7 lens from Amazon, which had a remarkably affordable price due to a minor scratch near the front element. However, when the package arrived, to my surprise, I received a flawless 25mm, f/1.7 lens instead. It was an unexpected turn of events, but I decided not to exchange it and decided to give this full-frame 50mm equivalent lens a try.

And wow, what a difference it made! The results were truly astounding and need to be seen to be believed. I have always maintained that investing in high-quality lenses trumps obsessing over the latest camera bodies, and this video serves as a compelling testament to that theory.
