Archiving & Compressing (Linux+ Objective 1.2.4)

Описание к видео Archiving & Compressing (Linux+ Objective 1.2.4)

Unlike "zip", which is what most Windows users are familiar with, Linux approaches archiving and compression as separate steps. Linux also includes several different compression programs, all of which work similarly, but use different algorithms.

It's possible to both compress and archive at the same time using "tar" -- but even then, it's calling a separate compression suite to do the actual squeezing. This video covers cpio, dd, tar, gzip, bzip2, xv, and even zip.

For a more in-depth look at the tar program, our Linux Essentials video on a similar topic will probably help:    • Linux Does So Much More than ZIP!

This video is is part of the Linux+ exam prep series, but is useful for anyone who wants to learn to use Linux.
