This is by far the saddest and most difficult video I’ve ever created for this channel. Editing it meant reliving it over and over again. Still, I felt it was necessary. There isn’t much coverage online about Mandragora or the documentaries that inspired it, and as a result, both the film and the boys it represents have largely been forgotten.

I first saw Lilja 4 Ever years ago (which this reminded me of) and only recently learned it was also based on a true case. While researching Mandragora, it became genuinely shocking to realize how widespread this issue was across Eastern Europe throughout the 1990s-2000s, especially in the middle of all the other chaos going on post-communism.

I hope this video gives a little visibility to stories that were never meant to be forgotten.
