On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at approximately 7:39 p.m., San Diego police officers working in East Village heard what sounded like gunshots near the area of 14th Street and Imperial Avenue. They responded to that location and found a man on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot and stab wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. The victim is described as a 53-year-old Black male. His name will not be released at this time.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to investigate. The preliminary investigation shows that a group of people were gathered on the sidewalk. There was some sort of altercation that led to the suspect shooting the victim, then another suspect stabbing the victim. The suspects fled the scene in different directions. The suspects are described as Black or Hispanic males in dark clothing. There is no further description to release regarding the suspects at this time.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident, including analyzing physical evidence collected from the scene, attempting to locate and interview witnesses, and canvassing the area for surveillance footage.

There are multiple unidentified bystanders who were in the group gathered on the sidewalk at the time of the homicide. Detectives are interested in speaking to these witnesses or anyone with information regarding this active investigation.
