The ALMOGAVARS: Spain's Elite Medieval Infantry | SOLDIERS OF HISTORY

Almogavars is the name of a class of soldiers who came mainly from the Crown of Aragon and other Iberian kingdoms during the 13th and 14th centuries. The Almogavars were infantrymen and soldiers who were lightly clad and swift. They were well known during the Christian Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula. At first, these troops were made up of peasants and shepherds from the fields, forests and mountainous border areas. Later, they were used extensively as mercenaries in Italy, Latin Greece and the Levant.
