This is a short video of a Pacific Banded Krait (Sea Snake) attacking me in Niue, Pacific Sea Kraits are highly venomous and have roughly x20 more lethal venom that the most venomous land snakes being bitten by one is sure death! According to the locals their mouths are too small to actually bite a human and the only place they could get their mouths around are the webbings in your fingers and toes (I don’t know how true this is)

Anyway you can see from the video that I’m drifting towards the Sea Snake filming it coming up for air when all of a sudden it lunges at me, i can only assume that my mask flashed and this aggravated the snake causing it to launch an attack on my mask, I am drifting with the current filming the snake coming up for air. I have filmed hundreds of sea snakes from my gun mount and it has never caused an issue so I have put it down to a combination of the mask flash and drifting with the gun towards the snake. In the Slow Mo you can see him bounce back off the mask. But i really shat myself when it slide around my neck and then disappeared

Sea Snakes are usually very docile and you can have them swim between your legs and around your arms, They are beautiful to watch and very curious they will come upto you do not be afraid. Just act normal they will investigate and then leave. They really are magnificent to watch just take caution this is a very rare incident and they usually only act defensively and unfortunately I’ve obviously made it feel threatened
