Izzet BURN by Atsushi Nakamura

Today I wanted to feature the deck that finished 189th in the first Players Tour Online, Atsushi Nakamura's highly creative build of Izzet Burn. Nakamura's strategy is to pair haste creatures, burn spells, and blue interaction to pressure their opponent's life total from multiple angles all while being able to hold up Ionize as needed. I love when someone brings an archetype this far off the radar, so total props to Nakamura for this awesome brew.

I ended up playing against the cycling deck, which was actually a really interesting matchup. From the very beginning I assumed they had way too much of an advantage with their Zenith Flares. I figured they'd eventually slip one or two of them through my Ionizes and then I'd be dead or too far behind. It turns out that I underestimated the value of Nakamura's evasive creatures, especially Skarrgan Hellkite. It also seems possible that my opponent just didn't draw the Flares when they needed to, but either way the game turned out to be a close one.
