Beyond Description: Rim to Rim across the Grand Canyon

Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon is considered by many to be one of the toughest hikes in the United States. In June 2023, I had a rare opportunity to take on the challenge by traversing the North Kaibab Trail down to Phantom Ranch and up Bright Angel Trail over the course of two days. The hike was 24 total miles in length, with over 6,000 feet of descent on day one, and 5,000 feet in elevation gain on day two.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular places in the world, and is best experienced below the rim, where only 1 percent of the park's 6 million annual visitors dare to explore.
