After more than three days of striking by students at Makerere University against the 60% tuition and functional fees policy, the situation at the University has now returned to normal. This has been after Government’s intervention.
According to the Guild Speaker of Makerere University, Jothan Burobuto, the government has given a directive to the University council to revoke the 60% tuition and functional fees policy.
While, speaking at a press conference, the guild speaker called upon the students to now concentrate on their books and also pay up their tuition fees by the 12th week. This is in accordance to an agreement reached with the university management.

The strike at Makerere University started after some of the students had been denied a chance to sit for their tests and hand in course works unless they paid part of their tuition up to 60%. This is highlighted by the President of the Private Students Association, Simon Wanyara.

The 60% tuition fees policy has been met with a strong disapproval leading to a strike that lasted for over three days. This strike comes at a time when students at Makerere University are about to sit for their end of semester examinations.
