Dr. M was originally the brains of Sly's father's gang. In Sly Cooper 3 Honor Among Thieves, Dr. M explained that Conner Cooper was never such a good friend. Whatever happened between the two in the past, it's still a mystery.

Sly does remember a few things about his father. One event he remembers is the day when the map to the Cooper Vault was being hidden in a museum in Italy, this was when Sly Cooper was three years old.

According to Sly Cooper Issue 2, Conner Cooper was one of a kind and a good man. Which sides of the story are we supposed to believe? Was Sly's father a good man or a bad friend?
