The fire last summer still burns against the police, racism, and bigotry. Despite the attempts at co-optation from the Democratic Party and open racism from the Republican Party, youth and workers are still rising up. What lessons can we learn from the uprising last summer to move forward with abolishing the police, breaking with the Democrats, and bringing class struggle together?

Tristan Taylor is a bisexual, working-class Black man born and raised in Detroit. Growing up in a family that had to struggle (and still is) hard made Tristan the revolutionary he is today. He was won to Trotskyism at 18 because it embodied a Marxist method that helped explain the inequality he faced and how to fight it.

Tristan recently joined Left Voice, and is one of the founding members of Detroit Will Breathe (DWB), an organization born in the midst of last summer's anti-racist struggle. DWB now seeks to build a militant, integrated, and youth-led movement in Detroit that has been able to play a leading and radical role in the struggle for Black and Brown lives
