President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. visits the Filipino community in Vientiane, Lao PDR on the eve of his participation in the back-to-back 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits tonight, October 8, 2024.

Approximately 400 overseas Filipino workers welcome the President during his inaugural visit to Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), where they showcase the vibrant talents of the Filipino community in a program at the Latsavong Wanda Vista in Vientiane.

Filipinos in Laos are highly regarded for their immense contributions to Lao PDR, particularly in the fields of education and construction due to their unmatched dedication, professionalism and grit.

“My participation and that of the Philippines in the ASEAN meetings is precisely to find ways to cooperate with partners to better meet the challenges to forge a better future for our beloved Philippines,” Mr. Marcos said in his address.

“During this visit, I will also attend the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. I will meet potential investors, businesspeople, and encourage them to explore the many promising economic opportunities that we have for them in the Philippines,” he added.

To date, an estimated 2,000 Filipinos reside in Laos, mostly employed as professionals or skilled workers, with some working as lawyers, accountants, engineers and in hospitality services.
