The Brown Plant Hopper (Nilaparvata lugens) and the White-backed Plant Hopper (Sogatella furcifera) are considered to be significant pests in rice cultivation regions globally. These insects have been observed to detrimentally affect rice production, potentially resulting in yield reductions ranging from 75 to 99 percent. Such drastic losses are attributed to the damage caused by both the adult and nymphal stages of these hoppers.

When plant hoppers proliferate in rice fields, they induce a serious condition known as 'hopperburn,' which is characterized by the yellowing and eventual death of rice plants. This phenomenon not only diminishes the aesthetic appeal of the rice paddies but also leads to substantial deficits in crop productivity.

We have produced an instructional video which comprehensively discusses the symptoms of plant hopper infestations, the consequential impact on rice crops, and methods for detecting and inspecting these pests. Moreover, the video outlines integrated pest management strategies that are instrumental in mitigating the adverse effects of plant hoppers.

Furthermore, the video provides essential guidance regarding the judicious application of pesticides, elucidating which chemical treatments are efficacious against these hoppers. It emphasizes the importance of proper pesticide selection to ensure environmental sustainability and to prevent the development of chemical resistance in the plant hopper populations. Details are also provided on which pesticides are ineffective or discouraged for use in managing plant hopper infestations, thus equipping rice farmers with vital information to protect their crops and livelihoods‪@farmercare_fc63‬
