Durban is known as the "Banana City" and recently lived up to its name by using thousands of the tropical fruits to build the largest cake in the world.
It took four days to prepare the cake which was an incredible one-point-two kilometres long.
The iced banana cake of was made in Durban's International Convention Centre.
The record-breaking event involved volunteers and local chefs and it was all for charity.
4500 bananas and the same number of eggs went to make the enormous cake, together with 1500 kilogrammes of flour and oil.
The whole lot was divided to be baked in portions, rotating in an industrial sized oven.
Then it was outside to lay out the cake on tables, stretching round the whole convention centre, for over a kilometre (nearly a mile).
And then the chefs put the finishing touches - gloopy icing and more fruit to decorate.
Hundreds of people turned up to witness the final touches being made to the cake.
And few could resist paying 25 rand (four U-S dollars) to taste a portion of record-breaking history.

"I think it's had the most wonderful benefit in unifying Durban and helping underprivileged people and giving them a day out in the sun. Because all this cake is going to be donated to charity as well."

A judge from the world-renowned Guinness Book of Records came to make the record official.
He measured the cake and announced it a winner.
Mayor Obed Mlaba, making the announcement of the city's success, said KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa were winners with an achievement that would go down in the history books.
He said he was pleased to see young and dedicated students offering their services for the event.
People attending the event were delighted and impressed.

Officials said they were tired of South Africa being known only for crime and corruption and wanted to help change the country's image throughout the world.
Now Durban can be proud of this more positive achievement, at least until someone elsewhere decides to bake an even bigger cake.
