There is a lot of debate around the climate change issue, while we debate and argue whether it is caused by humans or not, the climate is changing, sea levels are rising. Do we fiddle while Rome burns?

Most of the worlds major cities are coastal, what will be the cost of protecting our coasts with hard barriers?

Who do we choose to protect and who will be left to their fate? Becaue there is not enough money to protect everyone, in fact the question is, is their enough money to protect anyone?

The proposed cost to protect New York could be more than $40,000,000,000 is any government willing to commit to spending that much money? Should New Yorkers pay or central gov?

When London was discussing building the Thames Barrier I'm sure there were many who disagreed with it's cost, because it could not be predicted when or how often it would be needed. Since completion until 2017 it has been closed 179 times.

When thinking about flood defence we need to consider how high to build it. Who's advice does government take, climate scientist's? Because as happend in Japan at the Fukishima power plant the defence they built was too low, even though many scientists had said it was too low.

In London it now now being realised that because of accelerated climate change London's flood defence will not be sufficient and a new larger defence is required further downstream.
