This is the self-titled demo by South Carolina death metal legends Nile. Reissues of their demo were retitled 'Worship the Animal.' Aspects of the distinctive Nile sound are present here, but you'll immediately notice that they hadn't yet made the commitment to death metal vocals. The tracks have more of an almost James Hetfield-esque thrashy shout. This demo would rule if the vocals were replaced with Karl's dry guttural snarl. Instead, we have this oddity by a band that was still finding its identity. I'm glad we ended up with an Egyptian death metal band instead of an Egyptian thrash metal band.
