Having a rules channel in your Discord server can be greatly beneficial to ensure all server members know the rules. Clearly labelled rules can encourage members to be behaved, and understand what is allowed and tolerated in the server. Server rules can also help moderators know exactly what is expected from them.

When setting up server rules it is recommended to be as detailed as possible. The more detail the better understanding that the server members can get.

There are multiple ways to set up rules in your server, however the most professional method is to use a custom embed message. Custom embeds allow you to add a color to the side of the message, and have the message sent from a custom bot name and profile picture.

Custom embedded messages can also be edited at a later point. This allows you to update the rules and fix errors whenever you want. The message ID and information remains the same when edited, allowing you to add a reaction verification system to the rules message.

Although rules are more important for new server members, it’s also good for existing members to have access too. To ensure that all members can see the rules channel it is best to use the “everyone” role permissions when creating the channel. It is also recommended to disable the ability to send messages in the rules channel. There is no need for anybody to be typing or adding information in the rules channel.
