Vans are used by tradespeople and delivery companies the world over. Many of them do inner city driving, as well lots of stop-start short journeys. 2020 is a huge year for full EV, hybrid and Range Extender / PHEV commercial vehicles, and this one in particular spiked Jonny's interest. When is a taxi a van? When it is a British designed and built LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) VN5.

The VN5 is classed as a range extender EV, meaning it has a 1.5 (60kW) petrol engine under the bonnet, but that acts as a generator as opposed to driving the rear wheels. It powers the 110kW (150hp) electric motor on the rear axle when the 400v 31kWh liquid cooled battery pack (under the front seats) have run out of battery power, or when you decide to save the battery for city/town use.
