This is how Shelton Benjamin won his only US Title. In July 2008, Matt Hardy defended his US Title against Mr. Kennedy, Shelton and Chavo Guerrero. Shelton threw Kennedy and Matt off the turnbuckle. Chavo quickly went for a pin on Matt and he kicked out. He also tried on Kennedy and he kicked out too. Shelton hit Chavo with a T-Bone Suplex and Bam Neely put his foot on the rope. Chavo hit Matt with the frog splash and Kennedy broke up the pin. Matt threw Kennedy outside on Neely and hit Shelton with the Twist of Fate on Chavo to retain the title. A week later, Matt faced Shelton in a non-title match. Shelton countered the Twist of Fate, hit Matt with the T-Bone Suplex and he kicked out. Then Shelton hit Matt with the Paydirt to win the match. Because of that, at Great American Bash, Shelton got a shot at Matt’s title. Matt hit Shelton with a leg drop and he kicked out. Went for another, Shelton caught him and threw him into the turnbuckle. Matt hit Shelton with the side effect and he kicked out. Matt pushed Shelton off the turnbuckle, who then countered his moonsault and hit him with the Paydirt to win the title.
