Today, during the sacred Octave of Christmas, we honor Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist—the Beloved Disciple who rested upon the Heart of Jesus and proclaimed the mystery of God made flesh.

Saint John is the author of the Gospel of John, the three Epistles, and the Book of Revelation. He stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross and was entrusted by Jesus with the care of Mary, our Mother.

Sacred art often shows Saint John holding a chalice with a serpent, symbolizing an ancient tradition in which poisoned wine could not harm him—revealing God’s protection and Christ’s victory over evil.

As we reflect on Saint John’s life and witness, may we grow in love, faith, and trust, and proclaim with him:

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
