Marc Botenga, a Belgian member of the European Parliament, called out Polish politician Adam Szłapka for laughing during a debate about the humanitarian session in Gaza.

During the session on Tuesday, March 11, Szłapka was seen looking behind him, turning back around and laughing while Portugese MEP Marta Temido was delivering her speech.

When Botenga, a member of the Workers' Party of Belgium, took to the podium afterwards, he immediately proceeded to call out Szłapka for laughing.

"You're laughing here, while we're talking about the deaths of I don't know how many Palestinians, about a population that is being starved, and you're here laughing and making jokes! It's not funny," he shouted. "The Palestinians are human beings too, and you should be ashamed!"

Botenga proceeded to slam the disregard for the lives of Palestinians, which he called the "hallmark of the European Union.

"Because yes, you managed to make a speech saying: "Ah! The situation in Gaza is getting worse...", without mentioning why it's getting worse," he said, adding that the situation is getting worse because Israel had blocked all humanitarian aid, all food and electricity.

"People, families, and children don't have drinking water, and you're standing there laughing! How is this possible, Minister? How is this possible, please?" he shouted at Szłapka.

Botenga concluded his speech by saying that European complicity and the lack of respect for Palestinian lives must end or it will cost Europe dearly.

Botenga has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights since Israel began its genocide in Gaza.

In December 2023, he cited UNICEF in saying that there is a "war on children" in Gaza and called out the EU's double standards in response to the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

"When this was happening in Ukraine, you were calling it genocide," Botenga said.
