The latissimus dorsi, AKA the lats, are one of the largest muscles in the body. It originates on the pelvis, sacrum, lumbar vertebrae, and lower ribs, spanning across the and mid back, crossing the shoulder, and then inserting on the intertubercular groove of the upper arm bone.

Unfortunately, many people make a lot of mistakes in training their lats, choosing poor exercises, using technique that doesn’t optimally hit them, and overall not developing them. To address this, we want to understand the lats anatomy, it’s function, the regional differences of the lats, their biomechanical functions, and how to practically apply this.
