Join us for a deep dive into the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO) 2025, held December 1–3, 2025, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat. This pivotal fourth edition attracted over 3,000 international delegates, including government officials, investors, and industry leaders.
The summit’s overarching theme was “Hydrogen Management: Closing Gaps, Accelerating Action,” signaling a crucial shift from strategic planning to tangible implementation in Oman’s green hydrogen sector.
Key Focus Areas from GHSO 2025:
1. Strategic Oman–EU Collaboration
A major highlight was the close partnership with the European Union (EU). The Oman–EU Green Hydrogen Forum, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) and the EU-GCC “Cooperation on Green Transition” project, took place on November 30, 2025. This forum aimed to align strategies and ensure Omani hydrogen seamlessly meets European market requirements, notably by focusing on regulatory alignment and common certification standards. High-level EU representatives, including EU Special Representative H.E. Luigi Di Maio, were prominently featured. This collaboration is already cemented by agreements, such as the plan to create the "world’s first liquid hydrogen corridor" linking Oman's Port of Duqm to the Netherlands and Germany.
2. Investment and Project Acceleration
Oman is actively moving from theory to practice, showcasing significant investment milestones. By the summit, eight large-scale green hydrogen projects had been awarded in Oman’s Duqm and Dhofar regions, targeting over 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030. The summit provided updates on projects reaching the construction phase, such as the ACME Duqm project, which aims to produce 17,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2027. Furthermore, officials discussed the 3rd auction round for green hydrogen sites, which attracted robust global interest, and detailed $3.6 billion in new incentives to improve project economics and widen the investor base.
3. Technology and Infrastructure Focus
Technical sessions covered the entire hydrogen value chain. Topics included scaling up electrolyzer capacity using Oman’s vast solar and wind resources, and developing infrastructure for transport and storage. Given export ambitions, there was a strong emphasis on conversion technologies, particularly transforming green hydrogen into green ammonia (NH₃) and liquid hydrogen for easier shipping. Oman is also investing in domestic applications, including a pilot hydrogen fueling station in Muscat, and utilizing digital platforms to coordinate project implementation in real-time.
4. High-Level Commitment
Omani officials affirmed the country’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. Minister of Energy and Minerals H.E. Salim Al Aufi stated that the summit reinforces Oman’s effort to strengthen energy security and position the country as a central hub for low-carbon hydrogen industries. Hydrom’s Managing Director noted that Oman’s approach addresses the "competitive trilemma" of hydrogen—cost, execution, and market proximity—giving it unique advantages. The event highlighted Oman's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
GHSO 2025 served not just as a conference, but as a catalyst for investment and a springboard towards making Oman a global green hydrogen hub
