It has been ten years since the passing of late Father John Lee Tae-seok, known for his extraordinary philanthropic activities in South Sudan. A memorial hall has opened in the late priest's hometown of Busan to honor his spirit of sharing.

South Sudan, a country devastated by a prolonged civil war... To the Sudanese people, Father John Lee Tae-seok, a priest from a far-away country, was a doctor, a music conductor and a teacher. His philanthropic activities shown in the film "Don't Cry for Me, Sudan" continue to move people's hearts ten years after his passing. A memorial hall honoring the renowned priest has opened recently in Busan. It is located in the neighborhood where he was born and raised.
[Soundbite] LEE TAE-WON(BROTHER OF LATE FATHER LEE TAE-SEOK) : "It's good to see the memorial hall being so close to the house where Father Lee Tae-seok was born. It reminds me of the time when he was a child."
The memorial hall showcases the late priest's personal belongings including his pocketbook that he used in South Sudan as well as old clothing. It is dedicated to publicizing late Father Lee's spirit of service, joy and sharing. The facility will also help socially marginalized children, just like the late priest helped Sudanese children heal their wounds and regain hope.
[Soundbite] FR. LEE SE-BA(DIRECTOR OF FATHER LEE TAE-SEOK MEMORIAL HALL) : "Young people need help to achieve their dreams. But they have no resources. The older generation must help them based on Father Lee Tae-seok's teachings."
The Seo-gu District Ward of Busan will hold cultural events in the area around the memorial hall until July to honor the great priest's legacy.
