At the center of town stands a mosque with a clock tower — but the clock runs backwards. The hands move counterclockwise, as if trying to turn back time.

Why? Because this town was built by Andalusian refugees — Muslims who once lived in Spain but were expelled after the fall of Al-Andalus. When they settled here in North Africa, they rebuilt their lost world, one memory at a time.

Testour’s white walls, red roofs, and narrow alleys echo the architecture of Andalusian Spain. And that clock — running in reverse — is said to reflect their longing to go back to the days before exile, to a homeland they could never return to.

Look closely at the minaret, and you’ll see another detail most people miss: two Stars of David carved into its sides — a quiet tribute to the Jewish communities who once lived side by side with Muslims in Al-Andalus.

So this isn’t just a clock. It’s a story frozen in time — a reminder of a lost civilization that still ticks, even in reverse.
