The harbour town of Mossel Bay in the Western Cape hosted the second edition of the Ironman 70 Point Three Mossel Bay African TriClub Championship. Spanish triathlete Javier Gomez won in a time of three hours 51 minutes and 46 seconds. In the women's race, British triathlete Emma Pallant-Browne finished in four hours 21 minutes and 24 seconds. Ironman South Africa has expressed its condolences following the death of a participant during the race. The athlete - whose identity is unknown at this stage - had to be extracted 250 metres into the swim of the triathlon competition.
