Hello friends welcome to my channel, My name is Akash Prajapati, Today's topic is HB Electrophoresis Test (Hemoglobin Electrophoresis Blood Test).
Hemoglobin present in red blood cells works to deliver oxygen to the body. There are some blood related disorders due to which hemoglobin is not produced in sufficient quantity like beta thalassemia etc. and due to this there is lack of oxygen in many tissues of the body. As a result, symptoms like fatigue, weakness and improper development of the body etc. start appearing. The person may also develop anemia which can make the condition more serious. Beta thalassemia can be of two types, namely thalassemia major and thalassemia minor.

Doctors may perform several tests to detect blood disorders such as:

Complete Blood Count (CBC)
reticulocyte count
hemoglobin electrophoresis
genetic testing
In all these tests, hemoglobin electrophoresis is used specifically to detect beta thalassemia.
Hemoglobin electrophoresis is a blood test used to measure the level of hemoglobin in the blood and detect its different types. If the level of hemoglobin in a person is abnormal, it indicates a genetic mutation. Hemoglobin electrophoresis test is recommended to determine the cause of abnormal hemoglobin production.

The common types of hemoglobin are:

Hemoglobin A is normally found in adults.
Hemoglobin F is also called fetal hemoglobin and is usually found in fetuses and newborns.
Hemoglobin A2 is a type of normal hemoglobin, found in small amounts in adults.
Abnormal types of hemoglobin include S, C, E and D hemoglobin.
Hemoglobin electrophoresis is performed:

To detect specific types of anemia, such as all types of thalassemia (including beta thalassemia)
To evaluate treatments for diseases that cause abnormal amounts of hemoglobin.
This test also helps determine the child's risk of inheriting certain types of anemia from parents.
