Viktor Stepanovych Kosenko (Ukrainian: Віктор Степанович Косенко; 23 November [O.S. 11 November] 1896 in St. Petersburg -- 3 October 1938 in Kiev) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, educator, and one of the most important public figures of the first half of the twientieth century in Ukraine. In the history of Ukrainian music Kosenko is known as a master of lyricism once his work, relied mainly on the traditions of Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Scriabin, and the Ukrainian Mykola Lysenko, is predominantly lyrical in character. His vocal, chamber and symphonic works, pieces among the most famous instrumental works of that time, are filled with romantic music and intonations of Slavic folk songs.
