...Source: Transcript: Per InsideEVs, Stellantis is expanding a recall involving brake pedal issues in its plug-in hybrid crossovers. The recall now covers nearly 27,000 vehicles in the U.S., including the 2024 Dodge Hornet and 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale. An additional 6,000 vehicles were recently added because their brake pedal arms could collapse under hard braking — a serious safety risk.

Specifically, 3,286 Dodge Hornets and 2,688 Alfa Romeo Tonales are affected in this latest round. These crossovers share the same platform and are built at Stellantis’ plant in Pomigliano, Italy, where the faulty pedal arms were also manufactured.

The fix involves reinforcing the brake pedal with a nut and bolt. Stellantis says the full pedal assembly will only be replaced if it’s already broken. Only one accident tied to the problem has been reported, and that was in Europe with no injuries. Internal reports show a total of 15 global incidents linked to the issue.

As a precaution, the company reminds owners that if the pedal fails, holding the electronic park brake button will bring the vehicle to a stop. The automatic emergency braking system may also kick in, provided it hasn’t been turned off.
