Hurricane Don has become the first hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season! It currently has winds of 75 MPH and a pressure of 986 mb. It currently is expected to stay in the subtropical Atlantic and dissipate in the next few days as it moves into cooler waters.

Invest 95L has been tagged by the NHC and is organizing. It currently has a 40% chance of development in 48 hours and a 60% chance of development in the next 7 days. Initial conditions are unfavorable for development due to the dry air to its north. However, as the dry air recedes out of the MDR, it will have much better conditions for development. It is especially concerning due to the insanely warm waters and weakening wind shear across the MDR and Eastern Caribbean.

We are now looking at several tropical waves that have recently peaked my interest and the conditions surrounding them. Right now, the waters are the warmest they have ever been and the Ocean Heat Content has been absolutely insane. On the southern tip of Florida, at the Everglades National Park, a temperature reading of 98.1° was recorded! This is a US record for how warm the waters are in the Atlantic! Compared to July 2020, the OHC is much more expansive and will allow for much more fuel for tropical storms and hurricanes to form, especially in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico!

Colorado State University put out their latest prediction of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season! It is now calling for an active season with 18+ named storms with 9 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes! The Weather Channel recently updated their Hurricane Season forecast and are now calling for 20 named storms with 9 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes! I will keep you updated!
