Fry's Electronics Sunnyvale, CA Walkthrough (Feb 2020)

Описание к видео Fry's Electronics Sunnyvale, CA Walkthrough (Feb 2020)

The Fry brothers opened their first store in Sunnyvale in 1985. The first store was a weird blend of electronic and grocery store. You'd enter the store to buy gadgets or components, but on the way to the checkout, you'd pass by shelves full of potato chips and other groceries. It looked like half the store was Quement Electronics, and the other half was a Fry's supermarket.
The Sunnyvale store moved twice while their business expanded through the 80s and 90s. The Sunnyvale location is gigantic, and if you needed a cable, adapter, or component, you could always count on Fry's vast selection. Now, that selection is gone, and so are the customers.
I went there during the weekend. In the past, there would be a line of customers at the checkout, but there was only one person ahead of me.
I decided to record a walkthrough of the store before it disappears forever. I don't see how they can stay open with so little business. Their explanation of changing to a consignment model seems like a long shot. I guess their first consignment is the gaming chair makers, because they have tons of stock, but I don't see anyone buying them.
They must be under a mountain of debt by now, because I've been watching them decline for a long time. I used to visit the Campbell store regulary, because of their promo codes. The last time they were well stocked was in late 2017. Since then, I've seen the parking lot gradually empty out, along with the shelves. By early 2019 the store shelves were looking bare. Obvoiusly, the employees have been busy spreading out products to make the store look full. Fry's is a pale shadow of its former self and I'm sorry to see them decline. They are a part of Silicon Valley history, and I have many memories of the good ol' days.
