Recently I had an issue having my komplete keyboard reading properly in Ableton 10. AND on a older version of mac.
I found that I needed to install the older version of the application Komplete Kontrol.

Open it, with the keyboard plugged in. THAT MADE the keyboard updater work!
DOWNLOAD THE UPDATER, KOMPLETE KONTROL A SERIES. to download new firmware to keyboard.

Now, the firmware should be able to update on the keyboard. And when you ope ableton. it should light up better.
