Blacksmithing-Forging A Flint Steel

Today I am forging a Flint Steel. Or Flint Striker. Flint strikers like this one have been used for many thousands of years by our ancestors to make fire. By striking the hardend carbon steel flint steel against a rock such as Flint or Quartz, a spark is generated which in turn ignites a tinder bundle preparred prior.

This method of making fire was used up until the early 1900 until matches became widely popular and affordable to common folk.
