Interstate I-15

START: Las Vegas Strip
END: L.A. Metropolitan Area - San Bernardino - I-215 Junction

***𝓡𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓮𝓭 : Oct. 2024

This video takes you on an unforgettable journey along Interstate 15, the vital highway connecting the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada, to the sprawling metropolitan area of Los Angeles, California.

The drive begins at one of Las Vegas’s newest and most futuristic landmarks, the MSG Sphere, before making its way along the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Home to over 675,000 residents, with a metropolitan area population exceeding 2.3 million, Las Vegas is the largest city in Nevada, a state known for its vast deserts and boundless skies.
Nevada itself spans an impressive 286,382 square kilometers, making it the seventh-largest state in the U.S., yet its population of 3.2 million ranks it 32nd, emphasizing the wide-open spaces and untouched landscapes that characterize the Silver State.

Leaving behind the shimmering lights of Las Vegas, the journey transitions to Interstate 15, heading southward into the heart of the Mojave Desert. The scenery quickly shifts to arid, sun-drenched expanses dotted with creosote bushes and distant mountain ranges as you drive through the southern Nevada desert.

Crossing the state line, you enter California, the Golden State, renowned for its diversity in geography, economy, and culture. California, the most populous U.S. state with over 39 million residents, covers an area of 423,970 square kilometers, encompassing everything from snow-capped mountains to lush forests and arid deserts.

The Mojave Desert, which dominates the first leg of the California portion of the drive, is one of the state’s most striking landscapes, offering breathtaking views of stark, rugged beauty.

The last notable stop in Nevada is Primm, a small resort town that serves as a gateway for travelers entering from California. Known for its outlet mall, quirky attractions, and the roller coaster at Buffalo Bill’s Resort, Primm offers a brief taste of entertainment before the drive plunges deeper into the desert.

Continuing along I-15, you’ll pass Baker, California, a small desert town often referred to as the “Gateway to Death Valley.” Baker is famous for its quirky roadside attractions, including the world’s tallest thermometer, which commemorates the record-breaking temperatures of the Mojave Desert. As the road stretches onward, the expanse of the desert becomes even more impressive, with the horizon seemingly endless under the bright, cloudless sky. The next major waypoint is Barstow, a historic crossroads and a favorite stop for travelers exploring the legendary Route 66. Barstow marks a transition point where the isolation of the desert begins to give way to the anticipation of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The town itself is steeped in history, serving as a hub for railroads, highways, and desert commerce.

From Barstow, the highway continues southwest through Victorville, a city nestled in the High Desert. Victorville offers a glimpse of suburban life within the Mojave, with its neighborhoods and amenities contrasting with the surrounding arid landscape. The descent into the Los Angeles Basin begins as you navigate the Cajon Pass, a dramatic mountain corridor carved through rugged terrain, offering sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

The pass is a crucial link between Southern California’s deserts and its densely populated coastal regions. As you leave the pass behind, the I-15 merges with the I-215 near San Bernardino, marking the edge of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, the second-largest metro area in the United States, home to over 13 million residents. Spanning an area of 87,940 km2, Los Angeles and its surrounding cities are a hub of global culture, economy, and entertainment, famous for landmarks such as Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica. The video ends just after the I-215 interchange.
