The Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Athens rock icons R.E.M. into its ranks June 13 in New York City. The Georgia band, founded in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and singer Michael Stipe, recorded 15 albums and won multiple Grammy awards including one for the 1991 song, “Losing My Religion.”
