Moisture test equals hay success for our first-cut dry hay! We're back in the hayfields at Ewetopia Farms, and this time, it's all about getting our first-cut dry hay off the fields and safely into storage. After a rainstorm hit just before baling, we were anxious about whether our hay would dry in time. Moisture levels are crucial—anything over 16% could lead to mold and ruined feed.

So we ted it. We rake it. We bale it. And then... we bring out The Probe!

This simple tool determines the moisture content in the bales—and the results? Better than we hoped! The hay tested dry, meaning it’s safe to store, and our sheep will have quality forage this winter.

We also captured some more beautiful drone footage of the baling process so you can see the full scope of the work that goes into producing high-quality hay on a Canadian sheep farm.
