Tropical Storm Fay was the first fully tropical cyclone to make landfall in the northeastern United States since Hurricane Irene in 2011. Fay began life in the Gulf of Mexico, but didn't reach tropical storm status until it reached the latitude of Virginia, 50 miles offshore. The storm remained close to land and eventually made landfall earlier than expected near Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Fay moved inland and weakened rapidly, dissipating over southeastern Canada.
