For a long time, battling has shaped the beatbox scene and pushed it into what it is now. However, competition has begun to stifle the artistry. As battle champions have decided champions and those champions have decided the next champions, a META has developed, those who don't follow it face complete failure. The thing is, battling was never the best way to grow as an artist in beatboxing. Time and time again, we see those who move on from battling soon outgrow it and find closer-to-mainstream success than all of the battling system. Yet, still, people will gladly spend thousands for the chance to get paid for a performance; they travel across the world for someone at the back of a room to tell you you're not good enough to keep performing, and even if you win, you might not get money for it. Everyone who doesn't see it still battles constantly. Everyone wants to be king of the hill.
